All parts should be washed by hand, and Presto includes a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard
Great Product This thing is great. Easy to use. Easy to clean. The protective cover looks good, protects from the heat and lessens the frying odor. I'm happy with my purchase. cool daddy Works exactly as advertised, have had no problems. Fairly easy to setup. Easy to clean up compared to frying in an open skillet and having to clean the entire work space. Actually, very little needs cleaning, just the basket, the insert and the inside of the lid, and unless you spill oil on the outside of the fryer, there is nothing to clean on the outer shell of the fryer. Really nice feature, being able to put the food in the basket and closing the lid prior to lowering the basket into the oil, totally eliminates the danger of hot oil burns. Very happy with our purchase. Presto Cool Daddy I like this frier, its a nice size and its easy to use, it cooks the food well. The only complaint I have is that is easy to burn yourself using it. The part that holds the greese sits ontop of the Frier and its exposed and easy to hit when youre stiring up the food so it doesnt stick to the basket. There should be something plsatic that it sits in or something. I have brunt myself three times. One big burn on my arm and two smaller ones on my hands using it.

Best Fryer for a family of 2 or more! It 's Incredible! I bought this fryer mainly because of its capacity, we're a family of 4, and because I heard good things about it. I am so glad I did! This fryer cooks 3 pounds of food perfectly! I made a ton of homemade potato chips tonight. This fryer is easy to use and easy to clean, and, as a bonus, it's easy to drain so you can save your oil. When I was a teenager I worked at Burger King, and cooking with this fryer made me feel like I was at the fry station again (not that I want to relive that feeling). But, really, it has an actual basket that lowers into the hot oil and it has a place to set the basket so when your food is done it drains properly. My Chinese chicken and broccoli has never tasted so good! This fryer is a gem. If you like to cook and want to cut down your cooking time on foods such as french fries, chicken, fish for tacos etc..., then this is definitely a purchase to make. Amazon has free shipping on this fryer which is why I bought it from them. We had a Fry Daddy years ago, and there is absolutely no comparison whatsoever between the Fry Daddy and this Delonghi fryer. Delonghi is light years ahead. This deep fryer won't disappoint! Decent, but a little pricey Received this as a gift for Christmas '08. Have used it at least 8 times so far, and have had no problems with the function or electronics or anything. It does cook well, and it is nice and easy to clean once you have the oil drained (just throw most of it into the dishwasher!). However, one of the reasons that I requested this fryer was for the draining system, and I am pretty disappointed in it. I was hoping for something a little more sophisticated then just a simple valve that opens, like maybe a built-in filter and a reservoir to hold the oil. If you want to drain the oil, you have to first find a nice container to use to store the oil in. Then you have to try and hold this container up to the valve, along with a strainer or other filter to keep the oil clean, and I found you also need a funnel to keep the oil from running all over the place. While holding all of these items under the valve, you then have to try and open the valve. Once most of the oil has drained into the container (hopefully!), then you need to try and tip the fryer forward to get the rest of it through the valve. This task is obviously a little easier with 2 people, but would have been a lot easier if they had designed the unit better and made it so you only had to open the valve and it just filtered into an attached reservoir (or even a detachable container of some sort). Another thing I don't like is the fact that you have to set the timer before it will even start heating the oil. I'm not sure why, but once you select the temperature, it won't start heating until you set how long you will be cooking the food for. I have yet to even actually use the timer, since I usually need to cook several batches, so I just set the timer to something like 10 minutes, but then when the oil reaches the right temperature, I just cook the food and keep track of the cooking time myself. Overall, it is a good fryer that does a good job of cooking the food, but I don't think it is worth the price until the draining system and electronic timer is improved. Bad Electronic X2 - Don't waste your time First one showed up dead, would not power on. Amazon replaced, worked for three weeks and then the electronics just stopped. I liked the way it cooked, but the quality was just not there. I am returning it for a refund and I'll have to find a different unit

Deep Fryer Given as a Christmas gift to my daughter. She was very happy with the product stating it was better with cooking times than her last fryer. The "well" was deep enough to cook a family of five enough chicken at one time. WOW i work at a deli that uses fryers all day. I decided to buy this one. I am throughly impressed by its design. i would reccomend this fryer highly to anyone! An Entry Level Fryer I purchased this fryer, never having used one prior, because of its 12-cup capacity and for how easy to use it was made to seem. It has the timer, viewing window, claimed to be very simple to clean. While these claims aren't exactly untrue, with the money you're spending, these features are pretty standard. There are cheaper fryers that function more like deep buckets to put oil in but this is certainly several steps up from that. Though, the truth is that its just a basic fryer. Clean up (as you might imagine) is a bit of a pain if you're using this on a semi-regular basis. And, frankly, you NEED to use it on a pretty regular basis in order to get your money's worth. The 96 oz. of oil needed to get this thing going makes it an expensive novelty if only for occasional use. I do enjoy this fryer; it keeps its temperatures well, the green "ready" light also (possibly incidentally) lets you know where the temperature level is at, roughly, by flashing on when its reached its set temp. Its easy to set the temperatures, the guide that comes with this is actually really helpful on setting things to the right temps (the little cookbook section isn't bad either). One note on temps: the older the oil is the lower you'll want to place temps. Hamilton Beach's suggestions are helpful but not the law, play around with cook times and temps as the oil gets older. One interesting note about its quality design: I recently, softly dropped the lid and it is now permanently misshapen. Its felt solid otherwise, just odd such a small ding would leave a large impact on aluminum. Other than that, again, its easy to use, can be a great time-saver, but does just what it should for $50. I would disregard the bells and whistles and see it for what it is: an entry level fryer.

Nice Deep Fryer I am very satisfied with my fryer purchase. It does/works great for my fish frying and so on. A very good product. I would endorse this product. Good Quality...Good value. Was looking for an inexpensive Fry Pot to make some Hot Wings. I needed to be able to use it with my turkey fryer, and it needed to be big enough to make larger batches for a party. this Fry Pot "fit the Bill" perfectly. It is made a high quality aluminum, and is of a commercial grade thickness. The included basket is also paired nicely with the pot and takes full advantage of the pot's size. I was able to fry up 8 lbs of wings in about 4 batches. (Don't want to crowd 'em) Because it's aluminum, it transfers the heat well. I actually found I needed to keep lowering the heat after it reach temperature. It is also very light for it's size. Great Value! Deep Fry Fish & Chicken Wings Product cooks fast and best to use with a temperature gauge to maintain desired temperature.Would recommend this product to those who have no problem in adjusting the gas to maintain a specified temperature.

need extra burners?? my Mom had one of these for years until the teflon broke apart. we all thought it was pepper until the "big flake"! It wore out FINALLY and she replaced it with another presto. Seems the temp regulator was defective, but that is all she has talked about is how WONDERFUL the PRESTO is!!! I found the 6006 model at [...] in Katy Tx for $24.86 and bought it for her for our big Christmas get-together. I was trying to mirror the one that 'finaly wore out'. The only complaint that I have is that the 6006 model does not give the holding amount. I can figure out what is the difference between the 60006 and the 60003 model. The 6003 does say it is 6 quarts BUT WHAT IS THE 60006 CAPACITY???? I went to [...] to get more info and DIDNT!!. I will just take it to Mom and upon her approval/disapproval I will comment for yall. BUT SHE SWEARS BY PRESTO!!! My gosh, we ate out of the one she had until the teflon came off!! SHE LOVES IT!!!! I only gave it 4 stars due to the lack of FULL information, but my Mom wants her presto back!! It's great, no matter what Alton Brown says! This unit is similar to the one I have (old style 06000), so I have included my review here as well. I bought one at Walmart last year. I use it pretty often, but mostly for making popcorn. Turn temp to 350, put a couple-three tablespoons of peanut oil in the bottom, and then when the oil heats up throw in 1/3 to 1/2 cup of popcorn. Put the cover on and keep the pot moving while the corn pops. When the corn has just about stopped popping, turn the heat off and pour the popcorn into a bowl. Butter, salt and eat. YUM! I've deep-fried scallops in it, steamed vegetables, cooked rice, made soup and even baked potatoes. The thing works great! I wasn't going to write a review until I saw Alton Brown talk some trash about it on Good Eats. I got pretty defensive about my humble Presto cooker! He was doing a silly episode about "man food" like corn dogs and thin, square hamburgers. Well, when Mr. Brown was explaining how to fry the corn dogs he said (while holding a Presto mutlti-cooker) that a pot with an heating element on the outside of the bottom wasn't a good idea because first the element had to heat the pot and then it had to heat up the oil. Too slow. After that he displayed three home-use rectangular fryers with immersion type heating elements. He said they were also better because they each had cooking baskets and break-away magnetic cords. He picked the one with the digital controls, while implying that this was somehow better than the manual rotary temp control. I don't know if A. B. gets paid for product placement on his show, but I really thought he was being disingenuous regarding the Presto "pot." First of all, about the heating element on the bottom of the Presto cooker: During the frying demonstration, Mr. Brown had some text placed over the screen that said that if you didn't have a special electric fryer, that a pot on the stove-top would work fine. Isn't that interesting? What the heck is a pot on the stove, but just a heating element on the outside of a pot that heats up the pot and then the oil inside? That's exactly what he was criticizing the Presto kettle about. What gives? Secondly, the Presto cooker DOES TOO have a magnetic break-away electric cord to keep the unit from tipping when the cord is yanked by accident. Also, the Presto cooker DOES TOO come with a frying-steaming basket, which Brown implied it didn't have. Nya, nya, nya! See, I can be just as immature as Alton Brown! I don't know if the rectangular fryers are really better, but I'm sure they cost a lot more. My Presto cooker was $26.85 at Walmart. I keep it in a lower cabinet - it doesn't take up much space there. I pull it out when I need it. It's inexpensive, easy to use, and simple. When we go to Maine in August, I'm allowed to take only one of my counter-top appliances. So, I just take the Presto cooker with me. Normally, I cook steel cut oats in a small bowl, sitting in water, in a slow cooker (a bain marie - sort of - found the idea here [link deleted]) I can do the same thing with the Presto cooker. And I have a pot with me on vacation that I can do so much more with. One last thing. With my slow cooker I use a plug-in timer called a Rival Smart-Part. But it's not rated to control the wattage of the Presto multi-cooker. I found a heavy-duty programmable digital timer that I use to turn the Presto cooker off and on automatically. This device really allows me to use the Presto cooker like a slow cooker, without over-cooking stews and such when I am out of the house all day. The Presto multi-cooker is a terrific appliance! Buy one now, and don't believe everything you see on TV! Flash Update! Here is another reason to buy a Presto multi-cooker: I'm making a beef stew with red wine tonight. What a mess browning the stew beef! I have a 3 quart Wagner cast-iron chicken fryer, and this is what I used to brown the beef chuck cubes. These days the meat hasn't been aged much, and so it is very difficult to brown properly. I managed to do it in batches, but the stove-top got pretty messy by the time I was done. I put the browned meat, vegetables, and garlic into the Presto cooker ( I made sure to deglaze the chicken fryer with wine and include all the tasty bits) and continued to cook the stew. And then I could proceed to clean up the stove-top while the beef stew simmered away in a different part of the kitchen. I am very pleased not to have to clean up all that oil splatter after dinner!

Wonderful T-Fal deep fryer This is the best fryer that I've ever used. You don't have to worry about grease going over the edge when you turn your chicken, etc. You have plenty of frying area but importantly it doesn't stick. The cover is so good to have because you can actually see inside the fryer. You don't have to risk getting burned to check your food as often. I would recommend this fryer to everyone, you'll love it too! T-Fal Pan is Pantastic! This is a GREAT deep frying pan. I have used it for cooking all sorts of things. The high sides make it great for browning meat or anything with a sauce. The lid is great because it is clear and it has a vent that can be left open or closed. This pan is everything I expected it to be! chicken fryer I love my chicken fryer it is so versitile, it is the most used pan in my cupboard. The only problem I had was that the cover exploded, thank goodness the top crumbles like auto glass and no one got hurt. This is the first problem I have ever had. Is there a way to obtain a new lid and how.

The Ultimate Fryer Cookbook (Quintet Book)
By Wendy Sweetser

For many people, comfort food means french fries, doughnuts, fried chicken, fritters, or potato chips. In fact, deep-frying appears in nearly every global cuisine, in the form of samosas, egg rolls, fritto misto, or some other everyday delicacy. The keys to success are proper equipment, temperature, technique, and choice of cooking oil. This sumptuous collection of recipes from around the world includes mushroom and scallion wontons, Vietnamese rice rolls, and Southern fried chicken with cream gravy. It's a complete guide to deep-frying for the lightest, crispest, most healthful--and delectable--results.

About the Author Wendy Sweetser lives in Southend-on-Sea, England.
Wonderful Book This is a wonderful book. It is simple, but informative (information on best oils, etc.), has an enticing range of recipes (from appetizers to entrees to desserts), and is beautifully photographed. Of three books I purchased on deep-fryer cooking, this is my favorite. The recipes are simple and straightforward, but with nice variety - American, Asian and East Asian recipes are to be found. The photography is beautiful and is something that I find an enjoyable supplement in a cookbook as it can entice me to try something that I otherwise might not. All the recipes I have tried have turned out well and, while not Cook's Illustrated, the book provides a better level of detail for this form of cooking than do a couple of other books I have on deep frying. For example, the recipe for corn dogs in another deep frying book I purchased simply says to dry the hot dogs with a paper towel, dip them in batter and then put in the deep fryer. This book instructs you not just to dry the hot dogs with paper towels, but then to dust them with flour before dipping them into the batter in order to help the batter stick. The recipe further advises you to lower the corn dog into the oil carefully so that the corn dog doesn't plunge in, hit the basket and stick to it. All of this may sound basic and self-evident to more experienced cooks, but none of it was to me as a relative beginner to deep frying. When I first made corn dogs following the recipe from the other book before I had purchased The Ultimate Fryer, I had difficulty with the batter sliding off the hot dog (because the recipe did not mention dusting with flour) and in my rush to get the corn dog into the oil before the batter slid off, I was obliged to drop it quickly into the oil with the result that the corn dog plunged to the bottom of the fryer whereupon it stuck to the basket. When I later tried to rotate the cooked corn dog, it tore loose from the basket and pulled off the batter on the end of the corn dog. The oil began to boil as it hit the exposed hot dog. This is a simple example of the differences between this book and the other two I have, but it highlights why this book is my primary reference for deep frying and why I only turn to the other two after I consult this one first. Great cookbook This cookbook gives clear, concise instructions, even for the novice. The beautiful photos pique your appetite for trying new dishes. Great cookbook Nice photos and simple to follow. Just purchased a deepfryer and had no idea what to make or how to do it, the book was perfect.

Presto 05462 Digital ProFry Immersion-Element 9-Cup Deep Fryer
From Presto

Professional style deep fryer in a handy at home size. Oblong shaped basket has a 9 cup food capacity.
Amazon Sales Rank: #9217 in Kitchen & Housewares Brand: Presto Model: 05462 Dimensions: .0" h x .0" w x .0" l, 10.85 pounds

Decent replacement for my old fryer I love to deep fry food using canola oil. It's actually healthier and more certain than pan frying, especially when dealing with food that needs to be cooked thoroughly before eating, like poultry and fish. I have a small round fryer that does a good job but it's a NIGHTMARE to clean. The oil reservoir is gritty, so everything sticks to it very well - a major annoyance. It's also difficult to dump the oil without spilling. Enter this deep fryer. So far I've got no complaints, it's very easy to fry the food, and the basket is a very nice touch that my old fryer doesn't have. One minor nitpick is the basket I just raved about; I wish it were more "mesh" than "fence". Meaning I wish the holes were a lot smaller, so it would act as an effective crumb catcher. That would make the unit a lot easier to clean, and I can see how that might get to be a problem in time. But again, it's a nitpick of mine. Update 12/28: Ok, I've got complaints. First, the filtering is poor. It will leave the smell of fried-whatever all throughout your place. I've got an el-cheapo $40 fryer that I replaced with this, and the cheap one does a better job of containing that odor. I know this is like some industrial-type stuff so it's to be expected, but I can't keep buying Oust like this. Secondly, I was right about wanting the mesh. I've fried a couple of times and already there's a nice brown coating on the bottom. IT bothers me, because if they just went with a mesh-style basket I wouldn't have this problem. Third, it takes WAY too long to heat up. I'd say plan on about 10-15 minutes prep time. Hate to beat a dead horse, but el-cheapo was hot in a matter of 3-5 minutes tops. Dishwasher Disaster I was initially quite impressed with this unit. Since I have experience using commercial deep fryers, I recognized the nice features built into this unit. 1800 watts of heating power will bring the oil up to temperature in about 15 minutes, and should be big enough to recover quickly after you slowly drop a basket of raw material into the oil. That, however, was not my experience. After cooking two small batches of battered tenderloin nuggets, I allowed the oil to get back up to temperature, which took about eight minutes, and then dropped a basket load of steak fries. In a matter of moments the "ready" light went off, and the oil never did get back up to temperature. By the time the fries were browned enough to lift, they were pretty oily. The real bummer, though, was after straining the oil and storing it away, I broke down the unit and placed everything except the heating unit into the dishwasher. At that point, I was satisfied enough with the performance of the fryer I would have kept it and figured a way to get around the slow recovery time on the fries. But, later, when I opened the dishwasher to take the clean unit out and reassemble it for storage, the basket was completely rusted over! All of the other parts were just fine, but the basket was a great disappointment. So, I have returned that otherwise nice unit, and am now back on the market. A great home fryer for a new cook I've been using this fryer for about six months and so far it has worked very well. I have no other experience with fryers like this so nothing to compare it to but I do have a lot of small appliances and as far as cleaning and maintenance and storage this unit is better than most. It is easy to disassemble, clean, and to pour the oil out if you like to filter and reuse. The basket is serviceable but I've noticed some rust forming on the handle screws despite that I hand wash everything. It may not fare well in the dishwasher even though it says you can put it in there (another reviewed had a bad experience--I haven't tried it). The handle is a tad flimsy but mainly because it folds in, a nice feature, so I'm okay with that. Other than that everything is solid and well built. The basket hooks onto the rim to allow the food to drain but the bottom can still touch the oil if the unit is at the MAX oil mark. I like the fact that it holds exactly the amount of oil in a typical large jug (1 gallon) you find in the grocery store. Features: Digital temperature control sets one of 4 fixed temperatures: 300, 325, 350, 375. A (loud) beep lets you know when preheating is done. Magnetic power plug easily detaches from back to avoid yanking on unit if something snags the cord. Built-in 30 minutes timer--just a timer--it doesn't shut off the unit or anything like that. Basket folds up for easy storage inside fryer. Easily disassembles for cleaning. Vented lid to prevent oil splatter. Cooking: Oil heats up in a reasonable time (10-15 minutes) and allows you to prepare the food while waiting. It seems to maintain temperature well based on its own internal thermometer. I'm learning that deep frying is a bit of an art so you may have to experiment before you get that perfect, golden brown, cooked throughout result. One final note--this unit pulls down a lot of energy so you may not be able to use other high-energy devices while this one is on (electric skillet, rice cooker, or basically anything that heats) as it will overload the breaker. Of course this will depend on your individual kitchen and, if you have this same issue, you can always work around this by using a plug on a separate circuit.

It's great, no matter what Alton Brown says! I am very pleased not to have to clean up all that oil spatter after dinner! Don't buy it!!! I used this product twice - it worked fine then - tonight I was going to make fried chicken - it's been "preheating" for OVER 45 minutes and the temperature hasn't gotten past 200! I poured the oil into a frying pan and will fry the way I always did before. This purchase was a TOTAL waste of money!

Worth It I bought this for the purpose of deep frying more than the other features but it surpassed what i expected I would recommend this item to anyone that needs a little more frying area than what you have with a so called single basket without the excess of a dual basket unit Deni Multi-Fryer 9200 I have used several deep fryers over the years and this is the best I have ever had. The basket is shallow and square so everything layers nicely. Chicken strips and fries come out great. I haven't tried all the other cooking options but I'm sure they should work equally well. The deep fryer is what I bought it for. Very Poor Construction leads to immediate failure Upon on eof the very first times I used this product, the handle made of cheap plastic, broke. This makes the lowering and lifting the cooking basket into and out of the hot oil very shakey and dangerous. I cannot get a replacement handle so what good is a deep fryer that I cannot safely use???? Look at some other product, possibly one with better basic design and construction and hopefully much better customer service.

Deni Deep Fryer Snack Size I just love this cute little deep fryer. It is a perfect size for 1 0r 2 people. It beats having to heat up the big deep fryers just to have some french fries or chicken nuggets. It's also easy to strain the oil out, wipe the fryer out and pour the oil back in. So far so good. I was a little worried about the quality but so far this has been a great unit. Perfect for small jobs. There are only two of us and this unit does the job perfectly. Edit: Broke. Lasted 6 months. We used it a lot but still... Maybe we got a lemon but it is only worth 3 or 4 stars now. Great little work horse. I have a larger fryer and it works just fine. I don't use it much because it is big, bulky and a pain to clean. This little guy is great for one or two people. It doesn't take up much space so I leave it on the counter. The adjustable thermostat lets me cook things at the correct temperature so they come out great, just like the big one. When I need to clean it, it is an easy task. The big one is fine for when I have people over and I'm cooking for 5 or six people but for one or two people, this little one is great. I highly recommend it even if you do have the larger deep fryer like I do.

Oster ODF510 3-Pound Deep Fryer
From Oster

Bullet Items: Safety Auto-Off timer Easy clean, dishwasher-safe, non-stick, removable pot Cool-Touch exterior with locking lid and splatter-free viewing window Safety raise basket control Dual odor reduction system.
Amazon Sales Rank: #642716 in Kitchen & Housewares Brand: Oster Model: ODF510 Dimensions: 12.40" h x 12.60" w x 15.80" l, 11.65 pounds
French fries, onion rings, doughnuts--all the standards and lots more can be deep-fried in safety with this 1,560-watt countertop appliance. It cooks family-size portions (up to 3 pounds) in a big, 8-inch-diameter, 2-3/4-inch-deep basket. An adjustable thermostat calibrated in both Fahrenheit and Celsius provides precise temperature selection, and a temperature guide for various foods is printed on the fryer's exterior. Safety features abound: the lid locks, the basket can be lowered and raised remotely with a locking handle while the lid remains closed, a splatter-free window permits monitoring of the cooking process without opening the lid, the plastic exterior remains cool during operation, and the fryer automatically shuts off with a timer that can be set up to 30 minutes. For cleaning ease, the nonstick oil pot lifts out and a condensation collector pulls out. Two replaceable filters fit into the lid to reduce odors. (Replacements are available separately.) The fryer measures 11 inches wide, 10-1/4 inches high, and 14-1/4 inches deep. It has a cord-wrap in its bottom, carries a one-year warranty against defects, and comes with an instruction booklet that contains 22 recipes, including tempura vegetables, fruit fritters, and fried ice cream. --Fred Brack
The worst This is the worst product I have ever purchased. The lid was difficult to open and close. My husband and I stared aghast at the huge cloud of greasy steam that was emitted from this machine when the lid was opened. I will never forget the batch of awful french fries I cooked in this appliance! Cleaning this appliance is a nightmare! It evidently has recesses in the sides and you will never get all the grease out. The painted on numbers for the temperature and the brand-name Oster wiped completely off the outside with just normal soap and water after the very 1st use! I would never recommend this product! Poor design The basket release is difficult to operate, and broke on the second use. The heating element seems under-sized. If you want to cook frozen fries, you should know that 3 pounds will take forever. Better figure on 3 ozs. Horrible buy!!! Do not buy!!! Horrible buy!!! You will not have it no time until it breaks down....stay away!!!

Love this fryer I adore this fryer! The one change I would make is it would be nice if I could remove the oil bowl for easier cleaning. Oh, and the magnetic cord thing can come undone sometimes, we have to make sure it has a direct to outlet position. We have made green fries (battered green beans), jalapeno poppers, onion rings, egg rolls, and homemade corn dogs. All have turned out great. For the price, I think it's nearly perfect! WORST FRYER EVER! This fryer only lasted 2 months, I only used it a few times. It is VERY cheaply made, the button to even open the top barely worked when I first used it. By my 3rd use, it took 5 minutes to get it open, then it wouldn't even heat up. Terrible! What a waste of money.

Waring Pro DF100 Cool-Touch 3/4-Gallon Deep Fryer, Black with Stainless Accents
From Waring

The Waring Pro Cool Touch Deep Fryer has a black cool touch housing with stainless accents. 3/4 Gallon capacity and a large frying basket. Immersion-style stainless steel heating element, breakaway cord, removable control panel.
Amazon Sales Rank: #62912 in Kitchen & Housewares Color: Black/ Stainless Brand: Waring Model: DF100

Modern and easy to clean but no charcoal filter means lingering oily smell I bought this to replace an old, cheap deep fryer that was encrusted in old oil deposits. I chose the Waring because it has an immersed heating element (which reportedly should better maintain the high heat necessary to produce crisp fried foods), looked compact, and fit the modern black & stainless steel theme of my kitchen. I also liked the professional-looking buttons, the reported ease of cleaning, and the trusted Waring brand. Overall, I am quite pleased with the fryer. But let's start with the negatives. The most annoying thing is that it does not have a charcoal filter. I knew this going in, but didn't think that would be important--I thought these are a gimmicky ploy to make extra money on people who want to replace them periodically. Well it turns out I was wrong. My last fryer had one, and even though I never replaced it, it still helped to substantially cut down on that fast-food-place-oily smell when cooking. While this fryer has a built-in wire mesh filter, it really does nothing to reduce the smell, probably because it is not fine enough. As a result, every time I use the fryer, most of my 2-bedroom duplex apartment smells like a fast-food restaurant. This smell tends to linger in the air and in fabrics like clothing and drapes. I started cracking open my kitchen windows, but this only helped a little bit, and it's too cold to do that all the time! The smell is not the end of the world though, as it does eventually dissipate, sometimes as late as a day later (I should mention I have a sensitive nose). The exhaust fan in my apartment kitchen doesn't ventilate to outside the building but I suspect if it did, this would help. Another much more minor negative aspect is that the black plastic is not as glossy as it looks in the picture. It is a thick, matte finish that actually looks and feels a bit cheap next to the sleek stainless steel. This is simply an aesthetic complaint--apart from a scratch that I somehow caused by rubbing a wire cooling rack against it, I have had no problems with the integrity of the construction. On the plus side, it is thick and keeps the unit cool to the touch. Now on to the positives. The unit is nicely compact and a tidy cube-like shape, with no protruding parts to clutter the look or make storage difficult. The stainless steel is good quality, and the window on top is thick glass, not Plexiglas. The buttons have a cool retro professional look to them. The best part is the inside. There is a removable stainless steel bowl that is very simple to remove and wash, even in the dishwasher. I love this feature! Other fryers I have used in the past have been a nightmare to clean because you have to tip the entire clumsy unit to dump the oil, and then wash it under a sink, which always made me nervous because I was afraid some water would get inside and damage it. This unit alleviates that problem--you simply remove the frying basket, slide out the heating element, and then you have access to the bowl. The handle is well-designed. It has a locked up position when the basket is elevated (to fill with food), and then a down position that drops the food into the oil. Just make sure to close the lid before you drop the basket because otherwise you may get scalded with very hot steam like I did once! The magnetic power cord is a cool safety feature and works great. It does come out easily (that's the point) and I have read reports about people not liking these because of that fact. However this has never happened to me, probably because the outlet I plug it into is just a foot behind the fryer. The cooking ability of the fryer is good. I was hoping to be amazed because of the immersed heating element but I wasn't--it's pretty similar to my last machine (a Rival I think) which didn't have an immersed element. The foods (primarily french fries) do not appear to come out consistently crispier. I'm confused by this though because with both this and my last fryer, the results have been variable. Sometimes the fries come out pretty crispy and sometimes not. The only thing I can think of is that length of cooking and potato quality may be factors. Regardless, the fries have always tasted good and the basket size is perfect for my household of 2. I should mention that I never use the timer because I prefer to eyeball it. To summarize, I'd recommend this unit to small households who are interested in sleek looks and/or are tight on space, but can tolerate the fried oil smell OR who have a good ventilation system in their kitchen (e.g., place it under an exhaust fan) to manage it. Solid and nice looking deep fryer for home use I am using this fryer for about 2 months now. Easily removable stainless steel bowl is made solid and temperature adjustment is accurate, black plastic is actually carbon fiber based composite therefore it does no change shape when heated, all stainless parts are also working as reinforcements, not just for looks. Timer is only for use as timer, not as switch, which makes perfect sense, heater is very well built and lifting basket is working smooth and with no problems. When using canola oil, there are no sticking or burned drippings anywhere. Filter on the top is simple stainless mesh designed to prevent steam bursts or oil splashes which I like since there is nothing to replace. Cleaning is simple and there is no burned "collar" inside the bowl thanks to good heat distribution. Cover has sold locking hooks from right and left which do not stick or come open, and glass window is made of solid thermal glass. There was never any smell of plastic, electrical problem or too hot to handle surface. I used few "household use" deep fryers before and they were messy, cumbersome to use or ugly and in some cases all three of those remarks. This Waring Pro DF100 is in fact the first deep fryer I actually enjoy using. It is well made, simple to maintain, and it also cooks good every time. Absolutely Fabulous! What a find. After my old deep fryer finally died, I searched for many days for one to replace it. None of them stacked up until I found this one. It is sealed, so no smell in the kitchen. I use peanut oil,it does not burn. The timer is a plus for the teenagers, who tend to forget when they use it on their own. There is absolutely no splattering prior to closing the lid. Love it! Hopefully, it will last me many years.

Just buy the one without timer! The timer didn't shut off the fryer.. so it's not worth $10 extra comparing to FA7000002. Clean But Flimsy I'm not as confident using this product as I was my Delonghi Safely Fryer. Both have their pluses and being able to throw 90% of this item in the dishwasher is one of them. I felt very confident and safe using my Delonghi but not with the EZ Clean. I think they should go back to the drawing board and make this alittle more stable but the idea is great. My Delonghi was stinking up my house and the only really dishwashable part was the lid. The non stick finish was a joke but I felt safe with the easy to lower basket with the lid shut. EZ Clean does save money on oil as it's smaller (just the right size for a family of 4) and I can drain the oil into the oil bowl that's included AFTER it cools down (about 2 hrs). This is a nice item but you have to be careful with it around children as you do any hot item. Mine are little Indians (no offence against Indians) and I try and keep them out of the kitchen when I'm cooking with this item. I did have to increase the time to cook up to another minute on my items to get them as crisp as I did my Delonghi. Hope this helps with your decision. I'd buy it again if they upgraded it. Easy to Use, Easy to Clean This is a great little fryer. It's easy to use, and SO EASY to clean. Drain the oil into the included plastic container and put everything in the dishwasher. What a breeze! It is small - but we only cook for two people so that doesn't bother us. The timer is pretty much useless, but for the price it was a great purchase.

Too fragile This is a good fryer - as far as it goes. It works nicely, has some good features that make it easier to clean than an old-fashioned bucket-type fryer. But it has a glaring design flaw. The heating unit attaches to the metal frame using a plastic bracket. If that bracket breaks - and, believe me it will - the unit becomes useless. That heating unit has to be securely attached to the frame in order to operate and once that bracket cracks, there is no way to operate the unit. Might as well flush $89 down the toilet. I am on my third unit and it has happened every time. I recommend avoiding this machine until DeLonghi replaces the plastic bracket with a more durable metal one. With that change, I would give this unit a clear five stars. Excellent Product From the ease of use to the ease of cleanup, this is an excellent Deep Fryer. It heats up in less than 15 min and the easy oil drain is a plus. It disassembles easily and every thing but the heating element can be put in the dishwasher. Taste That Chicken! We had a major crisis in our house the other. You guessed it, the deep fryer broke. Wholly smokes has the field of deep fryers changed in the few years since I purchased one. I thought I might have to go back to college to figure out what I needed... So I took a risk and purchased the DeLonghi. Normally I do not like to buy things I can not pronounce, but hey, not having any deep fried chicken makes a man go crazy. I was disappointed on opening the box, I thought it looked too small. I was planning on sending it back, but I really needed a chicken fix, so I filled 'er up with Emge lard (no California tofu eaters in this house) dunked a chicken in the basket and I had room for fries too! Wholly smokes! This thing is awesome. Next test, hamburgers on the grill. What goes with hamburgers? you guessed it, Newcastle Ale, but fries sometimes work too. So I cut up some tators and I was able to fill a double basket full of tators! Long to short, excellent product. Cooks great the capicity is a actually large. Twice as much as my older round "presto" average joe deep fryer. We are very happy with this product and would highly recommend it.

very small capacity, heats quickly, basket is of poor design & instructions are lacking food temps.

Good experience4
Overall a good buy. I used a candy thermometer to measure the accuracy of the thermostat. First thing i made was French Fries (of course,) and used a recipe that called for double frying. The first fry was for 2-3 minutes at 325 degrees, the second was for 4 minutes at 375 degrees. i purchased this fryer over the fry daddy for two reasons. The first was that it has a thermostat. Thermostat was very accurate, with a catch. I set it at 325 and gave it about 10 minutes to warm up. Checked it with the thermometer and it was 325 on the button. Gave the fries the first fry, and let then set it for 375. Gave it 5 mins to warm up to 375 and checked the temp with the thermometer and it was 370 degrees. Gave it another 5 mins and it was still 370. Another 5 mins and it was still 370. So it seems that while the thermostat has a 375 setting, the unit actually tops out at 370. Just the same, 370 did the trick for the fries just fine. After 4 mins they were golden brown and crispy. i could hold a fry by both ends and snap it in half like a dry twig. Very tasty and not overly greasy at all.

Second reason for purchasing this over the fry daddy was the included basket. What i quickly realized is that with the actual volume and surface area of the frying area already being very small, the basket took up too much room to be useful. i used average size potatoes to make the fries, and they were too long to fit into the basket unless i put them into the basket on the diagonal. since doing that would have only allowed me enough room to fry 5 or 6 fries per batch, i ditched the basket altogether and just used tongs to fish them out once they were done. i suppose the basket would still be useful for some things, but it really wasn't a big deal to not use it. So just to sum up.

pros: Thermostat was very accurate up to 370.
Quick to heat up.
Easy to clean up and has a lid to keep the oil in.

Cons: Doesn't actually achieve 375 degrees
Basket takes up too much room
Have to baby the magnetic cord. Came detached very easily.

Great performer, great price5
I bought a Presto 05420 FryDaddy Electric Deep Fryer which promptly ruined a Chicken Fried Steak and the frying oil with it--due to excessively high temperatures and no thermostat. I bought this one and it successfully produced and excellent CFS without sacrificing the oil.

The oil heated fast, the thermostat was accurate and the fryer itself was unugly.

The frying basket was very small--unimportant to me, the Frydaddy didn't even have one.

The interior was aluminum, but cleaned easily.

I thought this a much superior fryer than the Frydaddy, a real bargain at the price.

Since Bella Cucina does not have it on it's web site, and now Amazon lists it as not available--it has probably been discontinued--why so would be a dark mystery.

Big loser in a small package2
I have had this fryer since November 2006. At first, this little fryer seemed to be the greatest. My family uses a fryer very often, and we have had several larger ones. That being the reason this one seemed so appealing, the size. There are many problems we have encountered with this. The basket has folded up many times when emptying out hot food resulting in 3 burns. The tab on the top which houses the filter broke off within the first 2-3 cleanings and the plug continually falls off the back. I have also had the oil spurt out the top filter. The size is the only positive thing I can say about this fryer, all the other I have owned were very big and bulky. In the end size does matter, I will go back to the larger one.

Great and Small4
I like this fryer. I fried a lot of Japanese-style food for a family of 4 and there is no oily smell in the house afterwards. It took me a while though. It is all right since I do not want a large appliance on my countertop anyway and that was why I bought it. The fryer is ideal for frying chicken nuggets, shrimp and even Tofu. I gave it 4 stars coz it is really small. It is too small if you are thinking of frying bone-in chicken sich as chicken breast.

Nice For Two Servings...4
...but I am baffled as to why a good bit of the batter sticks to the bottom of the basket no matter what. I've used two different batter recipes, have thick and thin-coated the items, use peanut oil, tried heating the basket or keeping it out until loading, cook only 4-6 items at a time, always add items only when it has heated up to Ready...dunno. Other than that, it's compact, stores well, heats up fast and evenly, cooks beautifully, no spatters, easy to drain and clean, no scratches. I almost want to throw food in without the basket and then fish out with a spider or tongs.

For the price, a great deal.

The Real Deal4
After reading the reviews here that prompted me to buy this model, I thought it was only right that I share my thoughts after purchasing this model.

I've been using it about a month and am very pleased with the unit. It lets you know when the oil is at the right temperature (probably the biggest failure with deep frying... not hot enough). I didn't time it, but think it takes anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes to reach 375 degrees. Clean-up is 'relatively' easy.

'Relative' because I have come to the conclusion that "hot oil" just doesn't relate to being 'clean' or 'easy.' With this unit you will need a funnel. A plastic funnel is fine, as you shouldn't drain it while it is hot... and typically you are draining it back into a one-gallon plastic container. That's another thing. You're going to use a gallon of oil. Peanut is "suppose" to be the best, but seems to be the most expensive. I've only used peanut oil so far with this unit. Forget hard lard (Crisco) since it isn't recommended (as others have noted the heating element is in the oil, so I suspect that hard fat and the heating element would work somewhat like putting an egg in a microwave).

Also plan on buying a lot of oil. Oil breaks down due to the heat and just because you see them cooking chicken at KFC in one batch of oil all day, it doesn't work for the home unit. In other words, if they cook 15 lbs. of chicken a day per gallon of oil, you won't be able to cook 1 pound of chicken each day of the next 15 days. I think this is because you actually have the oil 'hot' for about 4 hours whether you cook just 1 pound or 15 pounds of chicken. It takes 3 hours for the oil to cool enough to pour it back into the plastic bottle. I would say that at the most, one should use the same oil 3 times... and probably 2 times is pushing it.

My previous experience was with the Presto Fry Daddy, Kid, brother, uncle, etc. I got one of those when they first came out and continued to be grease sick until about three years ago when I picked up another no-improvement Fry Daddy. It really does make a difference cooking hot enough and at the right temperature. But, recalling the complaint on one of the reviews of this unit... folks, this is cooking and you'll just have to do some experimenting. This ain't microwave where you set the time to 24 seconds and things come out perfectly. A chicken breast will take longer to cook than a chicken nugget.

I consider the 'acid' test for these fryers is using hush puppies (375 degrees) and then checking how much they retain the oil. Excellent, in my opinion.

I don't want to sound like a "generic warning label" but I do think you should have some safety concerns. It relates more to the amount of oil. We are talking about a gallon of oil that is very hot and stays hot for a long time. If you have little ones around (or a family get-together) I think this thing should stay in the cabinet. Yes, it has a unique plug that "should/might" detach if it is pulled, but accidents happen. I've worked in a burn center before and no matter what you can imagine, it IS worse. And to the patient, it is worse than what I can imagine looking and listening to them. The entire 'family' is changed forever.

Everything but 2 things can go in the dishwasher. The heating element is attached to the plastic display panel (one piece) and you'll need to hand wash the heating element (or wipe it down with a paper towel). The display will need some wiping with a cloth also since it gets some splatter. The outside wrapper (part that you see in the photos) is not recommended to be placed in the dishwasher. I sort of doubt it would cause any damage on the outside wrapper so I'll probably put it to a test someday, just like my "hand washables." Basically all the real dirty/greasy stuff goes in the dishwasher.

I would have given this product a 5 star but think a funnel or other way of easily pouring the oil back into the neck of a one-inch container should have been included with the fryer.

I bought this at Sears (higher price than Amazon) and they keep this model in stock. You might consider the GE unit that looks 'very' similar to this unit for less money. Do some research first, however. I was willing to pay the extra due to the numerous times that I got things that "looked the same" but turned out to be a different animal.

Great Product5
I had never owned or used a deep fryer before but as a person who is interested in healthy cooking and eating for myself and my family of six, I decided I wanted one after being told it reduces significantly, the amount of oil in the food after it is fried.

After spending quite some time researching for a deep fryer, I came across the Euro-Pro F1066 5-Liter Electronic S/S Deep Fryer during one of my internet searches. I immediately liked the "look" of the product but had never heard of Euro-Pro before so I was reluctant to make the purchase as I am not one to buy a brand if I don't know it.

Upon further investigations, I learned from my friends and the internet, that the company has been around for quite sometime and had made a wide range of Vacuum Cleaners amongst other household items. I then called Euro-Pro to get additional specifications on the deep fryer. After speaking with one of their agents on the telephone, I felt comfortable enough to make my purchase. I have been totally pleased with my fryer ever since.

When I used the fryer for the first time, I placed the food in the basket, then lowered it into the hot oil.... that first set of food stuck to the basket. Since then, I put the basket in the hot oil first, then I gently put the food in, and VOILA! No more sticking! The claim that the fried food is not oily is also very TRUE!

I would recommend this fryer to anyone.... it's digital features are simple to use, the basket holds alot of food at one time, the food is great and the entire unit can be disassembled with ease for cleaning. It is indeed a great product! Thank you Euro-Pro.

Excellent temperature control & easy clean-up.5
Finally, fearless frying! This deep-fryer is exactly what I had been searching for. I used to be discouraged from trying recipes for fried foods, because of the hot spattering oil, the difficult temperature control (me holding a thermometer in one hand over hot oil while adjusting the burner with the other hand), and the daunting washing-up of the cooking implements and the entire spattered cooking area. This deep-fryer has changed my outlook on frying entirely.

First, it has superb temperature control. This deep-fryer reaches 385 degrees F, the highest temperature of all the electric deep-fryers made for home-use that I found in my research. Because in most cases 375 degrees is the key to non-greasy fried foods, I wanted a fryer than could attain 385 degrees, to allow for the slight dip in temperature that occurs when the cooler food first enters the oil. When the green light went on, I tested the oil temperature with a thermometer and was pleased to confirm that, yes, it was indeed at 385 degrees. I fried corn dogs (hot dogs dipped in cornbread batter and dropped into the oil), and the temperature recovery was excellent. The results were crispy, non-greasy corn dogs that my family loved.

The second feature I wanted was easy clean-up, and this fryer passed the test. Except for the heating element, which easily detaches, every part that touches the oil is washable in the dishwasher: (1) the lid with filter, (2) the frying basket with handle, and (3) the oil container. The heating element I had no problem washing by hand, taking care not to wet the electronic panel. And the metal body (which does not contact the oil, and from which the oil container lifts out) needs no more than a wipe with a damp cloth to remove fingerprints, if one is being ultra-fastidious.

If you love deep-fried foods and want to make them easily at home, you can't do better than this deep-fryer. I most highly recommend it.

Review of Bayou Classic B#00 Perforated Basket5
I purchased this as a Christmas present for my fiance to go along with the outdoor turkey fryer I had also bought him. We have used it a few times already to deep fry chicken wings & had had no issues at all. It has held up fine. We did follow the enclosed directions and wipe vegetable oil on it before the first use.

Perfect fit5
We bought the Bayou turkey fryer kit at Home Depot, but it did not come with the basket. HD did not sell the basket separately, so I ordered this one from Amazon. When we got it my husband thought for sure it was too small, but it fit perfectly in the 30 qt pot.

Bayou Steamer4
Order arrived in a timely manner....good price...used it for the first time last weekend, and it was great not having to "dig" out the cooked items.

An excellently-performing deep fryer and great bargain!5
The good: first and foremost, it does a great job deep-frying food. A full (3-liter) reservoir of oil heats up in about 10-12 minutes. The 1700 Watt heating element is plenty for this fryer. Fries are crispy and hot, and onion rings are also excellent. The basket and reservoir are large enough to make about 2 super-size portions of fries at one time. *EASY TO CLEAN*. The reservoir detaches from the unit. The heating element is one piece with the electronic controls, all other components are detachable. Cool to the touch.

The bad: these are all minor items. #1 Thermostat up to 375. I would like a thermostat that goes up to 400, but could find none - even among the $1000 professional models. #2 The timer is not accurate enough. I would like to see a real kitchen-style timer with 30-second intervals at the low end, increasing to minute and then 5-minute intervals. #3 I had a problem with the filter cover popping off every time I used it for the first few weeks. This no longer happens. #4 Oil leaks out (the top) during cooking. I wish the cover had a tighter seal so that all the steam and splatter would go through the filter.

If you can find a better deep-fryer than this for under $100, please let me know!

Update 1-12-07: It's been about 3 months since my purchase, and I use my deep-fryer about twice a week. I use light olive oil, which has a high smoke point and also is supposed to *lower* cholesterol (yes, it's true). Of course, you still have to consider the calories. Only use light or extra-light olive oil since these have a high smoke point. The fryer still operates as well as described above. When buying, you may want to consider ordering Rival RF22 replacement filters at the same time. The description of these falls short - I get 6 carbon filters and 3 grease filters from this package for this fryer.

My best french-fry recipe, found on the internet, modified only very slightly but expounded on significantly:
1) Slice potatoes (any type) into 1/4-inch slices. I use a V-Slicer to get uniform fries (it comes with a 1/4-inch cutter, despite contradictory descriptions). Very important - potato skins make *NO DIFFERENCE* in texture or taste, so leave them on.
2) Soak in water in the refrigerator for at least 6 hours. (Water may become discolored, depending on the type of potato. Don't let it worry you.) "Soaking" fries are still good after three days (they've never survived uneaten in my refrigerator for longer than that).
3) Drain fries and dry carefully (I dry one "load" at a time). Dry until the fries no longer look wet.
4) Coat lightly with corn starch (I just add fries and corn starch to a plastic container and shake). Coating should be barely visible on all fries. MUCH too much corn starch makes the fries taste mealy. Too little keeps them from being both crisp and juicy.
5) Wait for fryer to reach 375 degrees (highest temperature), and fry 10 minutes (until they *begin* to turn orange). Be careful not to over-fill the basket. All the fries should be covered with oil when the basket is lowered, or you will get under-done fries.
6) After cooking, lift the basket and allow it to drain for a few seconds, then unload the basket on a plate or server covered with a towel to soak up the excess oil. (I use small cotten kitchen/utility towels instead of mowing through paper towels.)
7) Eat! Some of the best fries I've ever had. Though they stick together when removed from the fryer, it's kind of fun to pull them apart. I top with malt vinegar and salt.

Rival Deep Fryer5
I like the fact that it is dishwasher safe (all parts except for the heating element). Storing oil in the fryer is an option but if you prefer, you can empty the oil pan into a bottle and wash the pan in the dishwasher too. No more stinky, rancid crumbs in the bottom to deal with. I also like the thermostat and timer.

Works well and can be cleaned completely4
The best thing about this deep fryer is that all parts could be taken apart and cleaned. It works well and is safe. But it fills my house with greasy smell. It was a lot more than just deep frying on the stove top. Also, it was a little too big for a family of four, considering the amount of unusable oil I had to throw down the drain. I will still use it for recipes which call for a deep fryer, with good ventilation.
