acomplished5
I set out to purchase a fryer that would meet our family needs. This Rival fryer does exactly that. Looks great and really easy to clean. I would recommend this to a friend.

Frys Great just hard to clean3
I would think any fryer is hard to clean. The lid is almost imposible to clean. But hot grease kills any germs. haha

Easy clean up!4
I gave my husband this fryer as a gift. We have enjoyed it. Works great, you can put it all in the dishwasher, which is the best part in my mind. It is a larger fryer and takes lots of oil, but it is also nice because it is large. We just made french fries and hush puppies in it tonight, yummy. I would recommend this item to a friend.

The oil storage/filter feature ROCKS.4
Just got mine about 1 week ago. Made fish and chips just tonight. Figured it's time to put some back into the review pool and share the knowledge.

The reasons I chose this fryer turned out to be not the reason why I like it. But I do like it.

I bought this fryer because I thought it had a digital read out for temperature. This was Alton Brown's idea. But the digital read out does not serve this purpose! It is only for a timer countdown feature which works ok, but my handheld timer works better. The temperature control is actually a lacking feature because there are only four preset temperatures this fryer will lock in to (320, 3338, 356, 374) degrees F. This is fine for me since all I care about is the high temperature.
What turned out to be a very cool feature that I assumed might be a gimmick is the oil storage tray/filter system. Normally when you operate a fryer like this, you do your frying business and then let it cool down (takes 2 hours or more), then somehow "transfer" the oil back into a canister. You would need to strain the oil to get the debris out yourself. Likely, you would spill some of it.

This fryer, on the other hand, has a covered plastic "drawer" that sits underneath. When you are finished frying, you turn off the fryer, and turn the knob to "drain". Once the temperature cools down (approx 1-2 hours), the valve automatically opens up and fills up this drawer. There is a filter in the bottom of fryer bucket that keep the oil clean for you so you don't have to strain. When you're ready to use the oil again, you pull out this "drawer", open up a small valve on the end of it, and pour it back into the top and then BAM!, you're good to go. No mess. Very cool.

The drawer has a lid that enables you to disassemble it for the dishwasher. In fact, the element lifts off the top and then every piece in this thing goes right into the dishwasher for easy cleanup.
These big plusses that make this fryer worth buying: 1) Well built. 2) The automatic oil storage/drain/filter feature and the ability to break down everything for the dishwasher make this thing worth it hands down. 3) This unit also holds almost a gallon of oil, which is good since that means a fast recovery time - temperature will stay hot which is the key to proper deep frying. 4) Can `dishwasher' everything except the element, including the oil drawer.

Not so great: the `digital' read out /timer is gimmicky but works to maintain one of the four temperatures. There is a fill line that you MUST NOT exceed that is only about halfway up the fryer, leaving you with a frying `depth' of only about 3". This is about normal for a fryer in this class through, so if you want a deeper basket, you'll need to get an entirely different class of fryers that don't have this no-clean up feature. The window on the top of the lid is useless since it fogs up in one nanosecond of frying. There's also a feature that reminds you to change your oil after TEN uses, which is totally lame since after about FIVE you'll want to change your oil, and that depends on how heave you fry. Since this thing has no way of telling if you fried 5 lbs of fries or one chicken nugget, it counts them as ONE and that counting feature is useless.

Also, there's a non-Emerilware version of this for about $35 less - I'd go for that since the only difference is this `digital' readout which is useless.

And remember, with any fryer, unless you want your house to smell like a burger king, you'll want to operate this thing directly under a vent or better yet, outside.

You pay for the name but, its a great fryer.5
We picked this one rather than the non Emeril model for the digital setting of the temprature. I have heard digital was better for accuracy (Alton Brown). Set up was easy. Reading the manual is a must to figure out the digital controls. The self draining and filtering worked as it should. Pay attention to your oil levels do not overfill!!! The amount of food you can fry is good for a family of four. The only thing I wish this fryer had was a higher temp setting but, it seems to be the industry standard. We love this fryer!!

Extremely Satisfied5
This fryer has performed exactly as advertised.
'
The draining and straining of the oil has been flawless and the oil is ready for reuse the next day without hints of prior use.

Clean up is easier than any fryer I have used in over 35 years of cooking. Heavy residues are easily removed with a good paper towel and the remainder of the normally messy clean up is almost fun.

Oil temperature is held consistently and reheating after inserting food is very fast.

Besides all of the above, it cooks like a pro.

Fast turkey4
I did a lot of research and if you follow directions , it is safe and fun.
It takes about 25 min to heat the oil and 45 minutes to cook an 11 lb. turkey. The pot has a maximum oil level mark and that was the correct amount for our bird. The turkey must be dried well to prevent spattering. Watch the oil temp. so it does not go over 350. Do it outdoors as the paint has to burn off the burners and it smells.

TURKEY FRYER FOR HOME BREWING NEEDS, GREAT BUY5
I purchased this turkey fryer kit with home brewing on the mind. I am a novice home brewer and this kit allowed for me and the fellow members of the Rat Bastard Brew Club to venture outdoors to brew beer, instead of in the cramped kitchen. This product allowed us to do a full five gallon boil, which provides you with a better product than a 3 gallon partial boil on the stove. I am pleased with this product and the quality of the kit in general, I would recommend this to anyone who has home brewing on the mind.

Nice set4
This is a nice set and worth every penny, but the same manufacturer, Bayou Classic, offers another set here, same fryer but more accessories like a basket and fry pot (for seafood boils and such) included for only another $10. Check it out before you spend more buying this one plus the extras if you'll use them like we do :)

No good1
Burned out after 4 months very light usage. Company willing to replace, but S&H (both ways) exceeds original cost. Magnetic plug troublesome. Does not connect firmly. Must jiggle and prop-up to make connection.

Do not buy !!!1
Same here except more like 2 months and burned out..maybe used once every other week. I also thought the magnetic plug was aggrivating...comes loose to easy. Thought about contacting the company even though I don't have my receipt but after reading previous review I'll just cut my losses and never buy this brand again!!

garbage1
Flimsy construction. Lousey temp. control. Size? Well, it wouldn'd hold 1/4 of a spud! I wouldn't recommend this one to a neighbor I didn't like. Had mine for almost a day and it is going in the trash.

DeLonghi Cool Touch ROTO Electric Fryers
From Delonghi

Great in small batches.4
Tonight was my first time using my new fryer and the first time ever using a fryer.

The capacity is small, so only cook for 2 - 3 people, unless you are just doing appetizers. I was hoping to fry potatoes, then chicken, then fries again, then calamari then tortillas. Because the oil capacity is small, the oil was dirty by the time I got to the calamari.

The basket can hold four drumsticks OR two large breasts. Each batch of chicken takes almost 20 minutes, so I would do the potatoes pre-fry, remove them, cook the chicken, remove it, then do the last potatoes fry after the chicken is done. The only negative is that the fries might taste like the chicken! No one complained of that in my house, though ~

All in all, I really like it, I just will use it for small batches.

The second time I used the fryer, the calamari turned out perfect! 16 oz. in two batches and they were golden and very tender.

Four stars because it would be great to have more capacity. I am happy with it otherwise.

Then told me it was due in end of Aug and that I should receive filter by the middle of Sept 08. Called them again on Sept 22 and was told part not in and that there was not expected date due in. I again was told to call back mid-October to check status. GUESS I SHOULDN'T EXPECT ANYTHING BETTER SINCE THE ITEM IS NOW MADE IN CHINA. MAYBE WE SHOULD ALL BOYCOTT ITEMS MADE IN CHINA. Nice features - low price4
This is a great little fryer. It cooks enough for 2 servings at a time, do not overload. It has a nice list of features. The basket is very handy, the temperature guage and ready light work well and the lid with vents and a filter help reduce the grease smell in your house. Some foods with a lot of moisture will not fry well with the lid closed and even with the lid closed you will not eliminate the odor completely. I set this up on my stove when I use it so that I'm able to use the exhaust fan as well and then I am able to eliminate all of the smell. It cleans up nicely and I'm able to store the oil in it between uses for weeks.

The previous reviews clearly were not using as this is intended. I suspect they were overfilling with oil/food/both.

I love a bit of grease5
A great gadget. No spills, no over boils, no stink, no mess.

Ensure your food is patted dry...or use a bit less oil if you don't want an over boil of grease coming out of the top.

It also says, to prevent food gunk sticking to pan..like hand batter fish don't use the basket. I just put the basket down into the grease and drop the fish in. Didn't stick.

Easy to clean. Lid lifts off, and it has a small catch for when you open the lid in the back of the unit.

I think it was easy to clean. Lid comes off, filter pops out, bowl lifts out and the bowl is immersable. Little hot water and Dawn and like new...

It took about 51 ounces of oil.

Order extra filters, it only comes with one.

great little fryer3
This fryer is way better than the one I bought a few years ago [the fry baby]. The only word of caution I want to share with folks is to really remove the ice crystals from food before putting in the fryer. The ice crystals make the oil boil up too much and will cause leakage. I had this happen the first time I fried, and since then I rinse the chicken wings under cool water and shake em off before putting them in the basket. If anyone is wondering, it takes a bottle and a half of cooking oil to get to the "max fill line", which is where they recommend it to be. The cooking/draining basket is probably the best feature of the product because you can let the oil drain off before putting the food on paper towels. I've noticed a lot less grease on my paper towels after letting the food drain for a couple of minutes.

PERFECT! EXCEPT FOR ONE THING ......4
I purchased the 8 quart size ... and am glad I decided on the larger fryer. The baskets are a good size, and I love the dual tanks. The dual tank comes in especially handy for cooking fish, so that flavors don't mix. We used a digital thermometer to check for temperature accuracy ... the left side was about 5 degrees off, and the right side was accurate.

The only complaint ... when cleaning the unit, the temperature scale imprinted on the panel wiped off! There are no indentation marks on the panel to follow, either. So now we pretty much have to remember where the temperature settings were printed on the panel.

This is a pretty big flaw in the product, especially for those who don't have a digital thermometer to check temperature. The rest of the unit seems well made. However, we are so happy with the dual chambers, the basket size, and the performance of the fryer that I probably won't return it.

Dual basket fryer5
It's exactly what we were looking for. The dual baskets are good sized, which is hard to find. It allows you to cook two items at a time, which is really nice!

Love it!!5
I bought this deep fryer for my son-in-law for Christmas. Says he can cook much faster than before. Likes that it has the dual chamber so he can cook two different foods at the same time.. He loves it....

Good, but takes too much time to heat the oil4
I have no excuse for buying a fryer, I have a high stress job, am an ex-athelete, whose eating habbits have gone down the drain. Buying a fryer, especially one as good as this, has further added to my fat and cholestrol intake.

This fryer comes from a very good design house, DeLonghi based out of Italy makes some really good products, but be advised, this unit is : "Made in China". So it is not that well built. The outer body is thin sheet metal which will bend very easily.

But that said, it has a solid inner oil chamber and a good and solid frying basket. What I like is the concern for customer safety, often at times, a person might mistakenly pull a power cord and trip the appliance. Now if you do that with a fryer filled with boiling hot oil....I leave possible implications to your imagination. The DeLonghi takes care of such an eventuality by 2 very simple, basic, yet very effective principles.
1) The power cord is short, so you wont have any extra length to get entangled in.
2) The power cord is connected to the fryer by a magnetic connection. Nothing plugs in, it is just held by a permanent magnet. So in case there is a minor tug, the power cord will disconnect, and you wont trip it.

Regarding operation, really it could not be simpler. I am used to complicated sequences and special dances which need to be performed whenever any new appliance is being used for the first time. So I picked up the manual, connected the unit to the power supply, filled it with oil between the min and max limits, and then looked up the manual for setting the temperature and timer. It was ridiculously simple. The unit automatically sets the temperature to 320, all I had to do was to press + or - to increase or decrease (respectively) the temperature. After that, you press the mode/start button now the timer display comes on, you press + or - to increase the time to the desired number of minutes. Then you press the mode/start button again, and the unit heats the oil within to the desired temperature and beeps to let you know when that is done. Now you immerse the basket with the goodies inside, and press the start button and the unit counts down the time till the timer runs out and then beeps to let you know.

The beeps are loud and clear, so if you set the unit in the kitchen, to heat up or are waiting for the food to be cooked, and you are seated in the living room catching a movie, even then you will be able to make out the beep. That is a good feature. God knows how many pizzas I have burned in convection ovens which never beeped loud enough for me.

The lid has a glass window, which is basically useless, because when you start frying, the vapor obscures the view. But thats not a major problem. I have never seen this sputter, so you can safely take off the lid to check how the food is being cooked.

There are 2 problems however.
1) The oil takes way too long to heat. Almost 12 to 15 minutes to heat from 68 degrees to 356 degrees. Thats a lot of power consumption.
2) The manual states that the unit must be filled with oil in between the min and max levels which are pointed out on the inner side of the container. Now thats kind of hard to make out after you have fried food in the unit a few times. The remains obscure the markings.

Apart from these few minor complaints, I am pretty pleased with its robust performance, ease of use and excellent quality. The food is always cooked to perfection. I have absolutely no complains here.

I would honestly recommend this unit, because of its safety features and great quality and the excellent brand name of DeLonghi. I do feel this unit is built to last.

Thanks,
Kaushik

--Top Secret-- Don't Tell Nobody5

This very well may be the first 4 and a half star Deep Fryer that I give five stars to because it's great fryer and with all of the digital applications it is very user friendly. This deep fryer is amazing with a nice digital angle and it's ability to hold the heat in and keep the smoke including odor down. If you've ever cooked chicken then you can appreaciate these benefits.

It is also quick to set-up, easy to use and it's ability to create piping hot food that doesn't taste fried and causes chicken to taste clean not greasy is great. I give DeLonghi 4.5 STARS.

.5 STARS is what they get for this neat little contraptions ease of breakdown for cleaning. I mean I broke this little baby down and with warm soapy water cleaned it up real nice and then dryed it off with paper towels and there it stood just as pretty as ever on the counter top...I almost took a picture of it and sent it to JD Powers.

So truly for a great cooking experience and an excellent clean-up I think it wouldn't hurt to have two of these in your house and this is your Servant Deremiah, *CPE signing out.

Best fryer i've used5
I have been very happy so far with this fryer. It is the first one I've owned that gives good results every time. The unit convieniently comes apart for easy cleaning.

Easy to clean
Built-in timer
Beeps when ready
Maintains precise temperature

Cons:
Timer can only be set to 1-minute intervals
Folding basket handle only folds INTO the oil
Sainless steel sides feel flimsy
Slow to heat up

Yes, it IS a fryer, and a good one, too!5
I bought this EXACT model in 2001, and along with steaming, blanching, roasting, etc., it clearly advertises itself as a "deep fryer" of which it does an excellent job. The manual even includes full frying instructions!

If Presto has decided to now say "don't fry in this", it is strictly a legal move. The problem is that Presto's "fry daddy" line has no temperature control, and it's preset low enough so that you can't set any frying liquid on fire. But these also have no versatility.

The multi-cooker can do so much more, because you can set the temperature from "warm" to 400 degrees. This is higher than the smoke point of some frying mediums (lard and shortening in particular) and therefore IF you don't know the smoke point of what you're using, you can get in trouble. This is probably why Presto's lawyers decided to say it's not a fryer anymore, although it clearly is. I, however, will happily continue to use my multi-cooker to make great fries, fried shrimp and chicken, donuts, etc. in addition to steaming and blanching vegetables, as well as braising. It's the most versatile appliance I own!

IT DOES iT all and then some ....5
I just got this today at Walmart for more than 1/3 off Amazon's price and it says plain and clear that it IS for frying among other things..I tried it an the temp was accurate too. IT also has one of those new magnetic type cords for saftey and you can stick all of it (the pot and lid) in the dishwasher except the cord and thermostat thing. This is a great deal! IT does the job off a fryer, steamer and a crock pot and cost less than most of them do by themselves. I tried the steamer fuction too and it works great! I highly reccomend this, Try it , you won't be dissapointed!

Presto.....The only way to go!5
I come from a large family, so i do a lot of cooking. This year everyone came to my house for Christmas, and not only was my mom impressed with my cooking, but also the way everything taste coming out of the steamer. She actually tried to take it home with her.... A week earlier, some of the guys came over, and my wife made her famous deep fried hot wings. The guys went nuts, especially, my brother Jarrick, he loved that there was little mess and because of the drop basket and tempature gauge, not mistakes.I'm buying one for my mom and my brother, at least that way i know i can keep my own! Thanks Presto

doesn't get hot enough to fry!1
This fryer is supposed to internally regulate itself to keep within 10 degrees of the desired temp... what a crock! I had it up to the highest temp (375), and it fried foods terribly, so I got out my candy thermometer: the highest temp it got to (and this was measured in the so-called "hot zone") was 350, and it was more often than not in the 325 range. Use a candy thermometer in a high-sided pot. This product was a terrible disappointment.

Works great for our needs3
We use it for frying a great deal of frozen things, like french fries, tater tots, etc. We have used it for onion rings and okra and it did just fine. I have not tried anything like chicken with it. I love the basket, the design, and the lid.

It Does The Job!5
I've had one of these little fryer appliances since they first became popular in the seventies. The current model is the second one I've had, being larger than the original model that came out.

For someone not needing to fry enormous amounts at one time, this little machine is ideal. It requires only a very small amount of vegetable oil. I've used it to fry chicken wings, quickly, to do french fries and onion rings, to do other smaller chicken parts, and it works beautifully. There is no thermostat; you just plug it in, wait 10 minutes, and the temp is 375. Having such a small amount of grease, it recovers heat more quickly than an electric skillet.

When you are through, if you plan to reuse the grease you can simply let the machine cool, snap the plastic top on, the put the whole thing in the fridge. I don't fry that often, and when I do, I tend to fry a lot, so usually I just discard the oil. Such a small amount is used (usually no more than 3 cups starting out) that I don't feel bad about discarding the oil.

The sides on this appliance are quite high, and splatter around the machine has never been a problem. I used common sense, though, when I fry, whether it's here or on the stove.

I'm sure the all-enclosed auto-fryers that are out on the market are nice, and if I fried a lot I'd probably get one. However, I only fry once or twice a month, and for that, this little machine is perfect. I'd recommend one to anyone--durable, simple, and does exactly what it's designed for!

Good for my frying needs5
I fry things about 1-2 times a week, and I liked my fried things to be very crispy yet not laden with oil. I wanted something that would truly get to a hotter frying temperature, to make my frying quicker and more "healthful"...(healthy frying....is that an oxymoron or what?) Because I don't fry THAT often, I just needed something simple.

I like this fryer because the heat-up time is very quick, and there is much less splatter then if you were frying in a pot. When I fry, I usually do your typical fried foods: fries, onion rings, wontons, etc. I have not tried to do anything else in it yet.

If the oil is fairly clean after I use it, I will put it in the refridgerator, but not keep more than a week. This is a very simple fryer. If you are a more heavy-duty fryer, then you might want to look into a fancier one. The exterior is not cool-touch, and there is no basket. If you only do small batches of things, and don't really fry that much, or even if you do, then this will be a great fryer for you.

Simple to Use4
This machine is really easy to use...I fried dough to make funnel cake and donuts, and it was simple. All you have to do is put in your oil, heat it up, and add the dough. The number of things you can fry is endless. My personal favorites are the funnel cake, chicken tenders, and french fries. Depending on what you are making, cooking time can vary from mere minutes to a half hour. Experiment, create your own recipes, it's easy.

One word of advice is to make sure to clean the fryer and change the oil regularly. Nothing is worse than frying with old oil. Keep the fryer very clean! Enjoy!

Caution: Do Not Overfill5
My wife and I bought the T-fal deepfryer and we love it. I read all the reviews and noted that one person had complained of finding that his T-fal deep fryer had leaked oil all over the counter. Finding few bad reviews, we decided to buy it. Sure enough, after the fryer cooled and the oil emptied into the reservoir there was oil all over the counter. It did not take a rocket scientist to figure out the reason. When we filled it prior to turning it on, we had a gallon jug of cooking oil which we emptied into fryer. A gallon is 3.78 liters (16 cups) and the capacity of the reservoir is 3.3 liters (14 cups). We noticed when we filled it that it was slightly over the max line but did not give it a second thought. Unfortunately, when the machine cooled and the oil drained into the reservoir, the extra two cups of oil had no where to go but onto the counter. THERE IS NO FUDGE FACTOR ON THE MAX LINE, DO NOT OVERFILL IT. Any oil that is over the Max line will end up all over your counter. We learned our lesson and have not overfilled it since. After that fist incident we have used our T-fal deep fryer several times and it works perfectly. The food comes out perfect, clean up is a snap and we would never trade it for anything else.

Maybe I didn't want a fryer after all3
This is my first home deep fryer. My only other experience is with professional fryers in restaurant settings. Therefore, this review is more for those, like me, who haven't deep fried at home.

I guess the main thing I learned so far is frying is not as simple as some other modes of cooking - you're going to be using nearly a gallon of oil that has to heat before and cool after. Like another review pointed out, when the oil is at cooking temperature, it puts out a lot of oil vapor and odor in the air, so unless you use it in a very well ventilated area, your kitchen and house will reek. Bottom line: deep frying takes a bit of commitment.

So what about the fryer? Most of the reviews I read about this seemed to be pretty much on the mark. Here's my primary thoughts:
- The unit has a decent sized capacity.
- Most all if it can go in the dishwasher, but will take up half or more of the dishwasher space - this thing is not tiny.
- The heating element thermostat is a dial with numbers marked on it - in other words, it is not digital, so I feel I should get a thermometer to confirm the oil temperature.
- A selling point on this rig, at least for me, is the automatic filtering of the oil. (This amounts to a drain in the bottom of the fry chamber with a metal screen). I moved the fryer out to my garage after it had cooled for a couple hours, hoping reduce the smell of oil in my kitchen, in the morning I found it in a small pool of oil - several ounces of oil either did not make it to the storage container. Either it leaked out of the top of the oil reservoir because its top didn't seal or it leaked as it was filtering from the fry chamber. Someone else's review claimed a much larger spill, making me think one must be very careful getting the reservoir properly sealed and positioned.

My plan is to put a large cooking sheet pan under the entire unit next time. Yes, there will be a next time, although my review may not sound glowingly positive, I think this is a good unit. I just wanted to provide a review that will help someone else make the right decision for themselves. For me, if I knew what an impact frying has on the overall environment of the kitchen, I made have gone a different route. I plan to install a vent in my kitchen this year, in the meant ime, I will likely use this like my gas grill - outside.

Almost perfect....5
This machine is brilliantly simple, easy to use, easy to take apart and clean, and so well thought out it might not have another that can best it.

Downside: the odor filter really doesn't filter that much, or that well. You still get huge plumes of vaporous oil rising up, and unless you use it under a hood your house will be a greasy mess. Luckily the design comes with two plastic side handles so you can easily move it on and off of the stove top where it can billow into your vent hood.

Sometimes deep fried foods are the only thing that will satisfy a particular craving. If cooked at the proper temperature, fried foods absorb surprisingly little grease. The adjustable thermostat on this 1500-watt, 1-1/2-liter capacity deep fryer can be set at variable settings up to 375 degrees Fahrenheit, and a frying guide gives suggestions for types of food. For safety the lid locks tightly but features a viewing window, along with dual filters for odor control. An outer handle raises and lowers the cooking basket, and the body of the fryer stays cool to the touch. A 30-minute timer and power on and temperature ready lights also add safety. The lid removes for cleaning and the nonstick bowl can be easily wiped clean. The deep fryer measures 10 by 8 by 10 inches. --Ann Bieri

Good, except doesn't get hot enough.3
I like all the features of this deep fryer, except for one major detail. It doesn't get hot enough! Granted, it only falls short by 10 degrees (365¡ instead of it's 375¡ setting), but when it comes time to fry Chinese rice sticks, for example, they just don't get done. French fries come okay though, so I guess how it'll suit you depends on what you'll be using it for.

Couple the thermostat problem with the fact that it's a bit on the small size, and you may be even less satisfied. If, for example, you load it to capacity with frozen fries, expect the temperature to drop dramatically. Plus, even when it's loaded to capacity, it barely cooks enough food for my family of four (two of which are two young girls who eat like fleas.)

I suppose I'd recommend it for serving one or two people at a time, and only if it's used for less peculiar types of foods than rice sticks.

TEMPERATURE LIES1
I was excited about this little deep fryer when I first got it, but I soon realized that it doesn't get hot enough. At first it was just a little off, but after repeated use (a few times)I found that it doesn't get any hotter than 300 degrees! Much less than the stated 375 degrees. So unless you want to have greasy boiled food, do not buy this product.

Great fryer for 1-2 people4
This fryer does the job well for the money. Odor is kept to a minimum while cooking with the filters. The basket that comes with the unit is quite usefull for frozen foods. Don't use the basket for fresh battered non-frozen food though. It sticks. The lid closes tight to keep the oil fresh and the lid is removable to make cleaning easier. It would have got 5 stars if the oil pan was removable. Not being able to hose the thing out makes it tough to clean regardless of a non stick coating. It's still easier to clean than a "burnt on" frying pan.
